DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS

INTRODUCTION :

Pest management of presticides / pesticides in an integrated or planned manne which plays an important role in agricultural production and in increased productivity. Timely and proper pest management not only helps in multiplication, production of predators, predatory pests and parasites in the eco-system, but also protects the crops from many diseases and pest attacks, which would be the most important task. For any kind of farming and farming operations.

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS WHILE PURCHASING

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Purchase of pesticides or bio-pesticides only from registered pesticide dealers with valid lisence.
  2. Purchase only the required quantity/amount of pesticides for single use in a specified area.
  3. Check for  approved labels on the containers or packets of pesticides.
  4. See Date of Manufacturing and Expiry, Batch No., Registration Number on the labels.
  5. Purchase only well packed pesticides  in containers.
  • Don’ts while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Do not purchase/buy pesticides from  from un-licensed person or foot path dealers.
  2. Do not purchase pesticide in large quantity for whole season.
  3. Do not purchase pesticides without approved/authorized label on the containers.
  4. Do not purchase expired pesticide.
  5. Do not purchase pesticides  containers which are leaking/loose/ unsealed.

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS WHILE HANDLING

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Keep pesticides safe and separate while transportation.
  2. Bulk pesticides should be carried tactfully to the site of usage.
  • Dont’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Never carry/transport pesticides along with food/fodder/other eatable products.
  2. Never carry bulk pesticides on shoulder or on back or onhead .

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS  WHILE PREPARING SPRAY SOLUTION

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Clean water should always be used.
  2. Use protective clothings as hand apron, full trouser, gloves, face masks, cap,  etc. to cover whole of body.
  3. Always protect your nose, eyes, ears, hands,face etc. from spillway of spray solution.
  4. Instructions on pesticide container label should be carefully read  before use.
  5. Prepare the solution as per the requirement only.
  6. Grany/Powdery pesticides should be used as such.
  7. Avoid spillage of pesticides solutions while filling in the spray tank.
  8. Always use only recommended dosage of pesticide.
  9. All such activities should not be carried out which may affect your health.
  • Don’ts while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Do not use muddy or stationary water.
  2. Do not prepare spray solution without wearing any protective clothings.
  3. Do not allow the pesticideor its solution to fall on any part of your body.
  4. Do not avoid reading instructions on container’s label for use.
  5. Do not use left out spray solution after 24 hours of its preparation.
  6. Do not mix granules or powder with water.
  7. Do not smell /put your nose in the spray tank.
  8. Do not use overdose it may affect plants health as well as environment.
  9. Do not eat, drink, smoke  while operating with pesticides.

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS SELECTION OF EQUIPMENTS

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Selection right kinds of equipments.
  2. Selection of right sized nozzles.
  3. Use of separate sprayer  for insecticides as well as weedicides.
  • Don’ts while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Do not use leaked or defected equipments.
  2. Do not use defective or non-recommended nozzles. 
  3. Do not clean clogged nozzles with mouth. Instead tooth brush should be used tied with sprayer.
  4. Do not use same sprayer for both weedicides and insecticides.

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS  WHILE APPLYING SPRAY SOLUTIONS

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Apply only recommended dosage and dilution for pesticide.
  2. Spray operation should be conducted on cool and calm day by trained person .
  3. Spray operation of pesticides  should be conducted on sunny day in general.
  4. Use of recommended sprayer for each and every spray.
  5. Spray operation of pesticide should be performed in the wind direction.
  6. Sprayer and buckets should be washed with clean water using detergent/soap after spray operation,
  7. Avoid the entry of animals and workers in the field immediately after spray of pesticides.
  • Don’ts while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Do not apply over-dose and high concentrated pesticide than recommended.
  2. Do not spray on hot sunny day and in strong winds conditions.
  3. Do not spray just before  and immediately after the rains.
  4. Solution concentration formulations should not be used for spraying with battery operated ULV sprayer.
  5. Do not spray against the direction of wind.
  6. Containers and buckets used for mixing up of pesticides should never be used for domestic purpose even after proper washing.
  7. Do not enter in the treated field immediate after spray without wearing protective clothings and gears.

DO’S AND DON’TS FOR SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES BY THE FARMERS AFTER SPRAY OPERATION

  • Do’s while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Left over or unused spray solutions should be disposed off at safer place in barren isolated area.
  2. The used or empty containers should be crushed without touching it with hands and legs and buried deep in soil away from water sources.
  3. Hands and face should be washed with clean water and soap before eating and drinking.
  4. On observing poisoning symptoms give the first aid and show the patient to doctor and also empty container should be shown to doctor.
  • Don’ts while using pesticide by farmers :
  1. Left over spray solution should not be thrown/drained in  nearby ponds , water lines etc.
  2. Empty containers of pesticides should not be re-used for storing other materials.
  3. Do not eat and drink before washing clothes and taking bath.
  4. Do not take the risk of not telling the poisoning symptoms to doctor as it may endanger the life of the patient.
